Emily Grey

I am the Head Keeper, Northumberland College Zoo.

Looking after animals has long been a hobby of mine, with many rescue pets of my own learning about the care and husbandry of different species, and subsequently improving their welfare is what I am most passionate about.

After completing my BSc degree in animal welfare management at Northumberland College I was lucky to gain the position of Head Keeper at Northumberland College Zoo, an extremely varied role which sees me managing animals, staff and college students. Despite not having a great deal of experience with exotic animals, (my knowledge base mainly being on domestic animals and livestock), I found that I could apply the understanding I had gained from my degree alongside the skills I had gained from my previous jobs to the management of animals in a zoo setting. As part of my role I am responsible for animal welfare, ensuring both the animals physical and mental needs are met. In a collection that ranges from hamsters to lemurs every day is different, offering new challenges and learning opportunities!

Mikayla Cavaness

I’m Mikayla Cavaness, and dogs have been part of my world for as long as I can remember. I grew up in my mom’s grooming shops and later studied dog training and behavior, but it was owning a dog-aggressive dog that truly changed everything. Navigating his challenges reshaped how I understood dogs and inspired me to create something different in the pet care world. That’s how Fetching Pet Company in Troy, Illinois was born, a place where daycare goes beyond “all-day play” with structured groups, enrichment, and one-on-one time that help dogs truly thrive. Our grooming suites are private, fear-free, and focused on comfort, no assembly-lines. One of my favorite things is figuring out new ways to raise the bar, from our scented lobby wall to offering enrichment since 2017 and more. At FPC, we’re dedicated to innovation, education, and giving every dog the chance to thrive.

Kim is a former university-level instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience in Veterinary Nursing. Both Kim and Bob are seasoned professionals, having worked in emergency medicine, general practice, hospice care, wildlife medicine, and research. Together, they built Butter’s House on a foundation of expertise, compassion, and medical-grade safety.

We provide therapeutic lodging and enrichment-based daycare in a secure, nurturing environment designed to support the health, happiness, and emotional well-being of every pet in our care. Going beyond traditional daycare, we integrate custom enrichment programs developed in partnership with Enrich University, ensuring every pet has the opportunity to thrive.

In 2025, Butter’s House proudly joined Elite Mastermind USA, a network committed to advancing excellence in pet care services.

Allison is the President and co-owner of Scout’s Honor, an International Pet Boarding and Daycare Association’s “Pet Care Excellence” award-winner of 2023.

Callan Edwards

Shay Kelly

Shay Kelly MSc: Canine behaviourist, welfare & enrichment advocate, author and blogger.

Hanora Rodgers

Nora Rodgers owns Wag Days Philly- two dog daycare, boarding and training facilities in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Both of her locations are city locked with one location in the basement of a converted technical school and the other located under their elevated trainline in an apartment complex. Thinking outside the box is where Nora thrives with only 1700 square ft Nora figured out how to transform her original location into a hotbox of ideas in action. Beginning in 2022 Nora put a strong emphasis on enrichment daycare and was able to convert 65% of her clients over to the “better way.” When Nora opened her second location in September 2024 she knew it had to be enrichment based out of the gate. With some pushback at first she trained her staff to understand the impotance of enrichment daycare for all dogs and the new clients bought into it quickly with 55% opting into enrichment daycare every day. Nora now incorporates enrichment into every aspect of her business- daycare, boarding, training and grooming services.

Nora lives in South Philadelphia with her husband Kevin, two kids- Dot (5) and Maeve (3) and 2 Italian Greyhounds Lenny and Carl. Before jumping into the dog industry Nora was an elementry school teacher, which tought her how to be patient. While working on her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Pennyslvania Nora caught the itch- not to teach but to follow that gut feeling to start a business. Wag Days opened in 2019 as a dog walking and in-home petcare business and quickly evolved into her first location in 2020 and a second in 2024 (hopefully a third soon!). Nora said she loves dogs but what really drives her is being ahead of the petcare trends and doing things that other petcare businesses in her area haven’t even thought of yet. Its a thrill!

Sarah and Pete Stevens

Sarah and Peter are the husband-and-wife team behind K9 Adventures, a multi-award-winning dog daycare in Hillingdon, and PawPal, the app they created to help other pet businesses run smoothly and grow with confidence.

What started as a shared love of dogs has grown into a thriving daycare built around enrichment, small group care, and a real community of owners who know their dogs are in safe hands. Their commitment to high standards and a bit of creative fun has earned them national recognition, including the SME award for Best Doggy Daycare in the South.

Alongside daycare, Sarah and Peter developed PawPal after experiencing first-hand how overwhelming admin and growth can feel in a pet business. Now they’re passionate about showing others how the right systems and a focus on welfare can make running a business simpler, more rewarding, and a lot less stressful.

Kelli McEntire

Kelli has always been passionate about animals since childhood, caring for her own pets growing up. After high school she worked as a vet assistant, where she gained invaluable hands-on experience and developed a deep understanding of animal behavior and wellness. Her passion for helping animals led her to pursue further education, becoming a skilled licensed veterinary technician with dogs and cats. Sam has always had a passion for business management from a young age. He has worked in the tech industry as well as started a variety of other service-based businesses.

Kelli and Sam began their business ownership journey together in 2014 when they purchased a 25 horse boarding facility in south King County. Together they successfully operated and maintained the facility focused on high quality care of the horses.

In May of 2022, Kelli and Sam shifted their business ownership from horses to dogs with the opening of Rainier Dog Resort & Spa. Focused on the highest standard of care, tailored to the dog’s individual needs. From suite-like accommodations to engaging activities and personalized attention, the whole team goes above and beyond to make each pet’s stay safe, clean, and fun.

Nicole Hatcher

As an ABTC Animal Trainer (AT) and Animal Training Instructor (ATI), I bring around 10 years of experience in the zoo industry, along with a brief background in falconry and the pet shop industry.

My passion lies in animal behaviour through training, and enrichment, and I strive to make a positive impact within the animal communities through my work

Meg Rostron

My current area of specialism surrounds the behaviour management of ectotherms to aid in cooperative husbandry care and medical behaviours by utilising enrichment and training as tools to improve welfare, manage social groups, build positive relationships, work more time efficiently and reduce stress to both animals and keepers. We are helping to build understanding and support BIAZA keepers in how to integrate enrichment and training programmes in to daily life particularly with recent changes to our licencing standards through more exposure to ectotherms as examples in new concepts through presentation, demonstrations and practical workshops. I have a background in FE education and am a registered Animal Training Instructor with the ABTC giving me a passion for teaching and mentoring both junior keepers new to the industry but also help build the development of more advanced concepts with experienced staff in the industry in line with progressive changes to behaviour management. I am a member of the BIAZA Reptile & Amphibian Working Group and have recently been appointed as co-chair to the BIAZA Animal Behaviour & Training Working Group.
